Delete an agent

Deleting an agent is the heaviest action you can take on this surface. It’s reversible only by registering a brand-new agent from scratch.

When to delete

  • The agent’s purpose is over (one-off scripts, abandoned projects)
  • The agent’s keypair leaked or you suspect compromise
  • An employee left and you’re cleaning up their personal agents

If you might want the agent again, suspend it instead.

How to delete

/agents/:id → scroll to Danger Zone at the bottom and expand it.

Under Delete this agent, type the agent’s exact name to confirm, then click Delete agent permanently.

What happens:

  1. The agent’s status flips to deleted (instant — every call from this agent is refused from then on)
  2. The agent disappears from the Agents list and every other view
  3. An agent_deleted row is written to the audit log

This is a soft delete: the agent’s record, permissions and associated data stay in the database, but the agent can’t be brought back from the dashboard. Platform credentials are connection-level, so they stay in the vault for your other agents, and nothing is revoked at the upstream provider.

What’s preserved

  • Audit history under the agent ID. Deletion does not erase the agent’s audit rows; they age out only under your plan’s normal retention.
  • The agent ID itself — it never gets reused for a different agent.

What’s lost

  • The private key is now useless. Even if you saved it somewhere, signed requests from this agent are refused.
  • MCPB credentials in Claude Desktop continue to point at a dead agent. If you’ll keep using Claude Desktop with AgentValet, register a fresh agent and paste the new credentials into the extension config.
  • Local CLI config still references the old agent. Re-run npx @agentvalet/register to overwrite it, or remove the files manually.

When deletion is the wrong move

  • An agent is misbehaving and you want to stop it cold but keep the option to investigate. Use Suspend. It’s instant and reversible.
  • You only want to cut off one platform. Revoke the permission for that platform.
  • You want to wipe everything including audit history. Deleting an agent doesn’t do that — audit rows are kept until your plan’s retention window removes them. Contact support if you have a compliance need to purge specific rows.
